The Remainders are Phoenix's first and only improvised musical theatre troupe. Asking the audience to suggest the title of a musical that's never been done, The Remainders use that title as the springboard to create an unscripted, unrehearsed, complete musical play.
Amusing and impressing with funny impromptu scenes and songs is a good start, but The Remainders look past that to a deeper understanding of and respect for these often misunderstood theater disciplines. Supplementing studies of song construction and long-form improvisational techniques with vocal technique, dance, movement, and stagecraft, our goal is to present an hour-long improvised musical that upholds the finest traditions of both improvisational and musical theater. The Remainders have performed in Los Angeles, Toronto, Albuquerque, Austin and Casa Grande.
The Light Rail Pirates (LRP) are a loose confederation of buccaneers, whose sole goal was to impose their reign of terror onto Phoenix's newest form of public transport. Upon arrival in Phoenix in 2006, they found that the Light Rail was but a construction nightmare, so as all soldiers of fortune do during down times, they turned their anger towards the art of improv comedy.
Once light rail construction was complete, they attempted to commandeer train 126-B, demanding to go to Paradise Valley (seat of wealth and influence in Phoenix). Valley Metro informed them the expansion to P.V. would be completed in 2025, and released all of them but Xchel from custody with a stern warning and a fine for fare jumping. The pirates have since returned to their lair to plan the rescue of Xchel Hernandez-Zendejas, and the assault and capture of Paradise Valley. In the meantime, Space 55 has graciously given them back their First Friday time slot.
